One time baby!

The last few days I discovered a new addiction: heads-up (’hu’) games. I mostly ignored them till now because I was kind of convinced that the ‘luck factor’ was higher in those games than in multi-handed games. First I played cashgames, but when I saw how much money just disappeared from the table because of the rake, I realized it’s much more profitable to play hu sng’s.

HU games have their advantages: because of the velocity of the game, you stay very focused during the whole game, in contrast with multihanded (especially long-handed) tournaments. Moreover, hu-play is a specific competence you also have to master in those multihanded games to make them enough profitable in the long run (because of the gap in price money between first and second place). The only thing you have to hope for is that your opponent didn’t bribe the dealer, which occured in the game below^^:

So first the dealer decided to devaluate my shiny Hellmuths by presenting his full house and subsequently he finished it all with a little one man show on the river:

This will ofcourse sometimes happen (speaking out of experience: screaming “one time baby!” behind your screen doesn’t help…) but you will nonetheless hear more from my activities on the hu-tables ;) .

I have never played Head’s Up except of course for final tables in tournaments, which are my preferred game. We are actually looking for articles about head’s up play in our Poker Strategy section. Would you be interested in posting on our site (you can include your own affiliation links in your post)? If so drop me a line on pokerbrb@gmail.com.
